‘Creating Happiness’ Lunch Bunch Lecture shows power of positive psychology

“Success doesn’t make you happy.  Being happy makes you successful,” said Dr. Judy Pierson in a succinct introduction to her Lunch Bunch Lecture, “Creating Happiness:  Tips from Positive Psychology,” held July 5 with 57 people attending..

Citing Shawn Achor’s book, "The Happiness Advantage," Pierson shared research findings which support the author’s assertion, “When we are happy…we are smarter, more motivated and thus more successful.  Happiness is the center, and success revolves around it.”

Pierson said, “Study after study demonstrates the power of mind over matter.  We need to make room for all emotions, but really focus on happiness and those things that create positive feelings.  Positive psychology suggests you can increase your happiness by training your brain to notice and create opportunities and positive experiences, and preparing yourself for challenges by priming yourself with optimism.”

Delaware Hospice’s Lunch Bunch Lectures are held on the first Friday of each month with topics focused on reinvesting in life.   There is a $5 cost for lunch. Participants should register by the Wednesday afternoon prior to the event for an accurate count to order food.   August’s Lunch Bunch Lecture has been canceled.  The next session will be Friday, Sept. 6.
