The development and systematic provision of high quality, specialised clinical psychology programmes of care and advice to children, families and staff who access BACCH services. To provide specialist clinical health psychological assessment and therapy across the healthcare domain where BACCH services are utilised as negotiated with the Director of Care. To provide advice and consultation on paediatric palliative care to parents and colleagues, within BACCH and the Ministry of Health. To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the areas served by the team. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise individual responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the role. To take the responsibility, for, continued development and provision of a psychological service to children and their families throughout the palliative care trajectory including bereavement services.

Skills

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention management frequently requiring sustained intense concentration.
- Excellent managerial and organisational skills.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, for complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, careers and other professional colleagues both within and outside BACCH.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non- professional groups.
- Ability to teach train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional academic settings.
- Ability to work alone as well as within a team.
- Ability to present clinical and research work to national audiences
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behavior
- Negotiating skills.
- Self-discipline and good time management to support the achievement of project objectives.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills.
- Able to work across professional team and organisational boundaries.
- Computer literate (word processing, power point and excel programmes).

Education

- Good honors degree in Psychology

Bayt Abdullah Children’s Hospice, Kuwait, is a registered NGO and the first children’s hospice in the Middle East. Bayt Abdullah offers a fully comprehensive paediatric palliative care service free of charge to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, designed around the needs of individual children and their families. The services at Bayt Abdullah include specialist paediatric pain management and expert symptom control at home and in the hospice, short “respite” breaks for the whole family, end of life care in a child and family centred environment and on-going bereavement support for families and friends. Non-clinical services include opportunities for play, continued education, arts and crafts, entertainment including the thrills of a wheelchair friendly Ferris Wheel, gardening, complementary therapies and community involvement.
