Chris Hadfield on the psychology of space

Last month, we posed this question to Sun Media readers: What would you ask an astronaut? Turns out, our readers wanted to know a lot about space.

More than 400 people posted questions for Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield through our websites, by e-mail or via Twitter. Readers wanted to know about everything from whether the social media superstar, who routinely shares photos from space through his Twitter account @Cmdr_Hadfield, believes in aliens to how he grooms his signature mustache.

Sun Media editors narrowed the field of questions to 12, which were sent to the Canadian Space Agency for review. Hadfield, who is on a five-month mission on the International Space Station, has answered three questions via video. We’ll be running one video response per day between March 6 and 8.

Here is the second question and Hadfield’s video response:

2. Hello Commander Hadfield; I really enjoy following you on Twitter. I'm a doctoral student in psychology and was wondering about the training you receive to help cope with loneliness, boredom, conflict de-escalation (with the other astronauts), and other psychological preparations in general. Also, I'm 32 now. Will I see even a small civilization on the moon within my life time? Thanks! CHRIS CARREIA
