Chewing Gum Boosts Focus, Says Study

Published in the British Journal of Psychology in March, a new study by researchers at the Cardiff University has been claiming that chewing a gum has the potential to boost a person's concentration levels.

Yes! It is very much known to everyone that chewing a piece of gum automatically triggers a person to do jaw exercise. And according to the team, the same in turn can help a person in staying focused in his tasks for longer duration.

The study partakers had been divided into two groups. A 30-minute audio task was given to both the groups, which included listening to various numbers read in a casual order. Scores were then given on the basis of how quick and accurate the participants were in detecting an odd-even-odd number sequence.

It was noted that the partakers that were chewing gum showed faster reaction times as well as more precise results. However, the chewing gum practice did not show any benefit initially. It was found that in the beginning, the non-chewers performed better.

"This trend might be because young people tend to view marriage as a "capstone" rather than "cornerstone", and points to a rift between college educated people in this age group", said the study.
