Cerritos Professor to Help Head National Society

Cerritos College recently announced that one of its professors will held lead a national society. Below is the announcement.

Dr. Kimberley Duff, Cerritos College's Psychology Professor was elected Western Regional Vice President of Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology. Dr. Duff's tenure as Vice President will span from January 2014 through the end of December 2015.

Psi Beta Honor Society promotes professional development of psychology students in two-year colleges through recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service. Dr. Duff has served as an advisor of the Cerritos College chapter of Psi Beta for years.

As vice president, Dr. Duff's primary responsibilities will be to coordinate Psi Beta programming at the WPA conference, attend annual Board Meetings with the Psi Beta National Council, and approve applications for new Psi Beta chapters.

"Kimberley's Cerritos chapter has been one of the most active chapters in the nation," said Jerry Rudman, Ph.D., executive director of Psi Beta. Last yearCerritos College won Psi Beta's Johnson-Tracy Building Bonds award as well as 2012-13 Chapter Excellence recognition. Dr. Duff and her students regularly attend and participate in the annual Western Psychological Association Conference in April and the American Psychological Association Conference each August.

"This position will allow me to be more involved at the national level with Psi Beta, and I look forward to contributing to the Psi Beta mission to promote scholarship at community colleges," said Dr. Duff. "The ability to mentor students at Cerritos College in research projects and accompany them to present their work at psychology conferences is what qualified me for this position. I look forward to energizing future Psi Beta students to conduct their own research."
