Calif. prison psychologist’s license suspended

The California Board of Psychology has suspended the license of
a prison psychologist who is charged with falsely telling police
she was sexually assaulted.

The board said an administrative law judge approved the
suspension Thursday. Officials are seeking to permanently revoke
Laurie Ann Martinez's license.

Martinez, who is 36, is charged with conspiring with a friend to
concoct an elaborate plot to persuade police she was sexually
assaulted by a stranger in her home. Authorities say she wanted to
convince her husband they needed to move to a safer
neighborhood.

Defense attorney Michelle Lee Spaulding says Martinez should
have been charged with a misdemeanor of filing a false police
report instead of felony conspiracy.

Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton says the department has
taken "appropriate measures" against Martinez.
