Being busy working or unable to return home to spend enough time with the spouse are probably the main factors why pornography is so popular in Terengganu, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Miri in Sarawak.

Psychology and family expert Suzana Ghazali said those living in Kuala Terengganu and Miri, for example, might be working in the oil and gas sector and rarely get to go home.

According to her, this was the factor why so much time was spent surfing the Web, compared to elsewhere in the country.

“It is difficult for them to return and meet their wives at home because they are busy working.

“But the sex drive is still present in them.

“Therefore, they may be forced to navigate to websites due to the constraints faced,” she said when contacted by The Rakyat Post.

She was responding to a report in The Star yesterday that statistics from the online adult video company, Pornhub, showed that in the city of Kuala Terengganu, users spent an average of 12 minutes and 58 seconds watching or looking for visual pornography.

Suzanna added that today’s technological sophistication also made it easier for people to access the Internet and view pornography.

She said people from all walks of life, including children, now had a smartphone and it was certainly not difficult for them to access such sex sites.

She warned that studies showed watching pornographic material could have an adverse effect on conjugal relationships.

“If a husband watches too much porn videos or images, there is a high possibility of him losing his original character and becoming less likely to have sex with his wife.

“There are also specialised ‘groups’ in the WhatsApp application made specifically to provide pornographic materials to the public.”
