Salem State University psychology professor Michael Mobley has been honored with the 2013 Distinguished Contribution to Ethnic Minority Issues Award from the American Psychology Association’s Division 44, Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues. The winners of this award represent individuals who have distinguished themselves in disseminating science and scholarship on LGBT issues. Mobley was also elected to serve a three-year term as president-elect of Division 17, which is aligned with school counseling psychology.

John Farrell, a sales associate affiliated with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Hamilton, was recognized as a leading sales associate nationally for the second quarter of 2013. Farrell was among the top 1,000 performers among NRT’s 42,000 sales associates across the country. NRT is the parent company of Coldwell Banker. Farrell works in partnership with his wife, Cindy.

Mark Grenier of Danvers, vice president and senior commercial banking officer at BankGloucester, will be honored with the Family Business Association’s annual Regional Advocacy Award for his help in promoting the Family Business Association on Cape Ann and the North Shore. Grenier will receive the award at an awards ceremony tomorrow in Cambridge. The FBA is a nonprofit organization designed to promote family businesses in Massachusetts.

Marian Court College in Swampscott has announced three appointments. Greg Walsh has been named chairman of the liberal arts department; he earned his doctorate in American history from Boston College. Swampscott resident Thomas Halloran has been named dean of admissions; a former English professor at Marian Court, he earned his doctorate in English from Louisiana State University. He is a graduate of Swampscott High School, and is currently teaching English Composition I, a three-credit course at Beverly High School, as part of Marian Court’s dual-enrollment program.
Adam Stearn has joined Marian Court’s faculty as a professor in the criminal justice department; he has a doctorate in criminology and justice policy from Northeastern University.

Seth Romans, a resident of Hamilton, has joined the North Shore United Way board of directors. Romans is the founder of SJR Equity. He has a bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and earned his CPA qualification while part of the Assurance Group at KPMG.

Elizabeth Fearon, a registered nurse, has been named the director of nursing at Essex Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. Most recently, Fearon was the director of nursing at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation — Harborlights in Boston. In her new role, she will be responsible for clinical and managerial oversight of the 190-bed facility’s nursing staff.

Daniel Marshall has been named the new manager of visitor services at The House of the Seven Gables in Salem. Marshall most recently served as the museum operations manager at Cracker Country Living History Museum in Tampa, Fla., and has also worked as managing interpreter for Gentry Households at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Marshall and his family have relocated to Salem.

Jackie Melanson of the firm’s commercial lines department earned the designation of commercial lines coverage specialist from the National Underwriter Co. Kathryn Coggeshall, marketing manager, earned the designation of certified insurance service representative from The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.
Milestones
In recognition of its fire prevention accomplishments in 2012, the Topsfield Fire Department has received a Life Safety Achievement Award from the National Association of State Fire Marshals. Topsfield is one of 117 fire departments across the United States to receive the award this year for recording zero fire deaths in 2012 or reducing fire deaths by at least 10 percent during the year.
