BPS members on the Today programme

Two psychologists were intereviewed on this morning's editon of the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.

Peter KInderman, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool and a Chartered Psychologist, was interviewed about the news that a reduction in the number of paracetamol tablets it is possible to buy at any one time has led to a reduction in the suicide rate.

He said: "Having to get up and go to the shops to buy more paracetamol seems to interrupt that mental process, it probably gives people the time to think, time to do something different, time to phone the Samaritans, time to send a text to a friend.

"I think we need to understand more about how these mental processes work."

You can hear the full interview on the BBC website.

In the same programme, Cary Cooper, Distinguished Professor of Organisational Psychology and Health at Lancaster University, commented on a report suggesting that more workers aew eating lunch at their office desks instead of taking a meal break - dining "al-desco".

He spoke about office culture in general and suggested possible ways of reversing some unproductive current trends.
