BPS award winners present at festival

Previous winners of the British Psychology Society’s book award, Nicholas Humphrey and Richard Bentall, are both speaking on the 25 May at this year’s HowTheLightGetsIn, a philosophy and music festival in Hereford.

The festival runs from the 22 May until the 1 June and will bring together scientists, psychologists, psychiatrists, philosophers and artists including Roger Penrose, David Nutt, Margaret Boden, Dinesh Bhugra, Patrick Haggaard, Molotov Jukebox, and Mr. Scruff for music, debates and talks. The 2014 theme is 'Heresy, Truth and the Future'. You can access the full programme here.

Psychological debate topics range from the science of consciousness with Nicholas Humphrey, the status of neuroscience with Steven Rose, and whether morality is instinct with Molly Crockett. For more information please visit www.howthelightgetsin.org

The annual Society’s book award is given to the author or editor of a book considered either to make a significant contribution to the advancement of psychological knowledge, to expound the teaching of psychology with clarity and insight, to make psychology accessible to a wider public, or to expand the scientific bases for the practice of psychology.

Nicholas Humphrey was the first winner of the Society’s book award in 1993 with ‘A History of the Mind’. Richard Bentall’s ‘Madness Explained: Psychosis and Human Nature’ was the 2004 winner. For a full list of winners click here.
