Knock knock. Who’s there? Someone offering you money. Why? Because you share
the same sense of humour.

A study at the University of Oxford has found that people are more likely to
be altruistic towards people who like the same jokes. Evolutionary
psychologists asked more than 400 participants to rate 18 jokes from a joke
book.

The participants were later shown the same jokes with ratings that they were
told had been given by another participant of the same sex. The ratings had
really been engineered to agree or disagree strongly with the participant’s
own rating.
