Bond University graduates celebrate

ALMOST 400 Bond University students celebrated their achievements at the official graduation ceremony this afternoon.

More than 500 degrees were awarded across the two ceremonies which saw graduates from both undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines in law, business, health science, sustainable development, psychology, criminology and humanities.

Among the graduating cohort were valedictorians Samara Insoll and Katherine Manstead, both sporting academic transcripts averaging at 90 per cent across their subjects.

Miss Manstead isn't the first in her family to receive the title of valedictorian, with sister Rachel having the same honour in 2007.

Despite the achievement Miss Manstead said valedictorian was never a goal of hers.

''I don't think anyone has a goal to be valedictorian,'' she said.

''You think about your results but it's not like you sit at home twiddling your fingers and plotting to get it.''

''I think it is more about the experience of being at Bond and the community atmosphere.''

Being valedictorian is just the beginning of Miss Manstead's blossoming career. She will kick-start her legal life as Associate to Justice Kiefel in the High Court of Australia.

Fellow valedictorian Samara graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Property Development and is set to start volunteering at a women's education program.
