The University of Bath has unveiled plans for two new research and teaching buildings worth £53 million to complement a £100 million package of construction projects.

The latest buildings, for which the university has lodged planning applications, would improve teaching and research with new laboratories and studios. The first building would primarily house the university's expanding Department of Psychology, with the second creating a range of spaces for its Faculty of Engineering and Design.

The buildings – and the existing £100 million schemes – are all part of a long-term development masterplan for the Claverton Down campus.

Vice-chancellor Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell said: "As we head towards our 50th anniversary in 2016 we remain dedicated to excellence in research, and to delivering a first-class experience for our students."
