Auburn University is partnering with the Center for Deployment Psychology and the American Council on Education to provide the University Counseling Center Core Competency Training Program, a full-day presentation to address the social, cultural, clinical and campus-specific concerns of service members and veterans.

The training will be held Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Auburn University Student Center Ballroom and will include specific discussions for campus outreach and planning.

“With so many veterans returning to campus and because there is so much information in the public arena regarding veterans that borders along the line of stereotypes, we think it is important to provide training for professionals, who would be working with veterans, to have all the tools at their disposal,” said Johnny Green, director of Auburn’s Veterans Resource Center.

The course is designed for on-campus mental health providers, but non-clinical university personnel are encouraged to attend as well. The training is also open to any mental health care professionals across the state who serve the needs of veterans and their families.

Seating is limited to 100 individuals. Registration is $35 for professionals who want to receive Continuing Education Unit credits Graduate students are admitted to the training at no charge. The registration deadline for all participants is Friday.

The training session will be presented by Kevin Holloway, assistant director of online programs at the Center for Deployment Psychology, and Lisa French, assistant director of military training programs at the Center for Deployment Psychology.
