Asia Ameigh received Provost’s Academic Achievement Award

OXFORD— Asia Ameigh of Marblehead was one of eight students who received the 2014 Provost’s Student Academic Achievement Award for their outstanding contributions to Miami University’s intellectual environment.

Ameigh is a senior majoring in Psychology and sociology minor. The recipients were selected based on nominations from Miami faculty. The award is given annually to 10-15 students who have completed their third year at Miami (a minimum of 75 credit hours) and achieved academic excellence while making sustained and significant contributions to the intellectual climate of a department, an academic division or the campus. Students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship and certificate of recognition during a ceremony in September.

Ameigh has been working in the behavior mimicry lab within the psychology department prior to her first year at Miami, joining the lab during her Make it Miami visit. This year she is the lab manager, which is typically staffed by graduate students in most labs. Her honors thesis project within the lab examines the effect of temperature on behavioral mimicry. She is the chair of the COMPASS board, which is a student research journal board.

Outside of psychology she is the vice president and choreographer for the Miami Vision Dance Company. She was nominated by Carrie Hall, Amity Noltemeyer, and Len Mark for the award.
