Houk Artistic Director for Tennessee Williams Revival
Carolyn Houk, School of Communications adjunct faculty member and former Conservatory of Theatre Arts student, is the artistic director for the St. Louis theatrical debut of “Stairs to the Roof,” one of St. Louis native Tennessee Williams’ early plays now experiencing its first production in 67 years.
Reviews for “Stairs to the Roof” have heaped praise on the production, which runs through Nov 23 at the Boo Cat Club (formerly the St. Louis Artist’s Guild, where many of Williams’ plays were first produced). Seeing Williams’ lesser-known one-act plays and discussing his work with Williams scholars inspired Houk, who hopes that “Stairs to the Roof” is only the beginning of a revival of Williams’ work in his hometown. Eliceiri Published on Religious Literacy via Online Library
Rebecca Klemme Eliceiri, Access Services clerk in the Emerson Library, published the paper “Zotero in Faith Community: Encouraging Religious Literacy Through the Use of an Online Library,” in the 2014 volume of Advances in the Study of Information and Religion, a peer-reviewed journal published by the Center for the Study of Information and Religion.
The paper discusses the role that the information management tool Zotero plays in encouraging religious literacy through a metaliteracy framework via its use as an online library at Liberation Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kingston, MacCartney, Miller on Learning Communities
Lindsey Kingston (History, Politics and International Relations), Danielle MacCartney (Assistant Dean, College of Arts and Sciences) and Andrea Miller (Department of Anthropology and Sociology) had their research on First-Year learning communities published in the International Society for Scholarship and Teaching and Learning. The article, “Facilitating Student Engagement: Social Responsibility and Freshmen Learning Communities” appears in The ISSOTL Journal, Vol. 2, No. 1 (2014), pp. 63-80, published by Indiana Univesity Press.
Stiles on International Accreditation and School Psychology
Deborah Stiles, coordinator of Applied Educational Psychology: School Psychology in the School of Education, was co-author of an article, “The Role of International Accreditation in Promoting Academic and Professional Preparation in School Psychology” published in the July – September 2014 issue of the International Journal of School and Educational Psychology.
On page 210, the article reads, “In reference to Webster University, an international university with campuses in [four] continents, ISPA accreditation together with the ISPA Code of Ethics were especially relevant, as the university shares ISPA’s recognition
of the vulnerability of children across cultures and of the need to promote international children’s rights.”
Marty Martin on Distance Learning, Instructional Technology
Marty Martin, director of Media Academic Technology Services, co-authored an article, “Real-time engagement in a learning environment,” published in the International Journal of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning [PDF, p. 55]. The article includes an overview and theories of differences between traditional classroom and synchronous teaching environments.
