YEREVAN, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS: Ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Great Genocide a study will be carried out among 2500 Armenians of Armenia and Diaspora dedicated to the methods of transfer of the Armenian Genocide traumatic memory to the further generations. As Armenpress was reported by the Head of the Department of Medical Psychology of the Yerevan State Medical University Khachatur Gasparyan, the study will be implemented by the Department of Medical Psychology of the Medical University with the assistance of the State Committee for Science of the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. “For us it is interesting how is the Armenian Genocide memory transferred from one generation to the other”, - said Khachatur Gasparyan.

The psychologist believes that the television, the family and the school should pass the child measured information on the Genocide, as it could cause the child to become a victim or an avenger. “When telling about the trauma, it is important not to pass only negative sides of the issue. One should be guided by the principle “do not harm”. In the result of the study we will present suggestions how the Armenian Genocide related information should be transferred to the next generations”, - noted Khachatur Gasparyan.

To the question – in case if Turkey recognizes the Armenian Genocide, will it be possible to overcome the enmity towards the Turks – the psychologist stated that in that case Armenians will treat many things easier. “The denial of the Genocide by Turkey makes our pain incomplete”, - concluded the Head of the Department of Medical Psychology of the Yerevan State Medical University Khachatur Gasparyan.

The research “Intergeneration transfer of the Armenian Genocide psychological trauma” will be launched in September 2013 and will be completed in two years. People at the age of 18-85 from the Diaspora and Armenia will participate in the research. In the Diaspora the study will be carried out among the American Armenians and the Persian Armenians.
