Apple Stores Use Psychology So You’ll Touch Their Macbooks

The next time you wander into an Apple store to buy an iPhone case and you find yourself playing with a MacBook or MacBook Pro it’s probably because you have been duped by Apple’s team of psychologists.

The company carefully optimizes every single little aspect of its store to make them “touch friendly.” For example every Macbook screen is calibrated via an iPhone app to ensure they are situated at a 70% angle from the keyboard. Apple employees also space each laptop at an optimal distance for comfort.

If that  isn’t enough psychology for you each employee with a beard must keep it shaved to exactly three inches.

Megan Garber at the Atlantic revealed those little rules as part of author Carmine Gallo’s upcoming insider’s account of how Apple stores function.

According to the report:

“The main reason notebook computers screens are slightly angled is to encourage customers to adjust the screen to their ideal viewing angle, in other words, to touch the computer.”

The store has a valid reason for their psychological retail warfare, by giving customers free rein of products in the store in the most comfortable way possible they are given the “full ownership experience” which is more important to Apple than the sale.

While Apple makes money from every single Apple retail location, the point of each location is to brand the company in the minds of already established users and customers who may be thinking about making a jump to the Apple platform.
