The Massachusetts Psychological Association (MPA) honored Dr. Lorraine Mangione, professor and director of practica at Antioch University New England’s doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, at their Annual Conference in Norwood, on Nov. 7, 2015.
The award recognized Mangione for her exceptional dedication to teaching and training in psychology, according to a press statement.
“I have first-hand knowledge of Lorraine’s commitment to students and training,” said Dr. Wendy Vincent, an AUNE alumna and MPA conference committee member. “Upon meeting her at AUNE’s open house over 11 years ago, it was clear to me that she valued connecting with students, sharing common interests, and shepherding students into the field of psychology.”
Dr. Mangione received a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1984 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Duke University. Her professional interests include psychodynamic theory, supervision and the supervisory relationship, adult development and creativity, group therapy and group dynamics, endings in therapy, ethics, brief treatment, and qualitative research and epistemologies. She regularly presents at regional and national conferences, and has published many papers and articles. In 2013, she contributed two chapters to the book Benessere Psicologico: Contemporary Thought on Italian Mental Health. In 2015, Impact published Daughters, Dads, and the Path through Grief: Tales from Italian America, which she co-authored with AUNE alumna Dr. Donna H. DiCello.
Among Dr. Mangione’s many professional accomplishments, she also chaired regional training conferences in 2007 and 2011 that brought together the New England academic and clinical training communities and national leadership to address national-level changes and initiatives in professional psychology education. She was chair of the Massachusetts Psychological Association training committee for 10 years. Within the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology, Mangione has been actively involved in research and writing about internships, encouraging the expansion of creative models of internship structure, as well as half-time internships.
