Annual library book sale starting this weekend

Cookbooks. Short stories. Kansas. Travel. Paranormal. Psychology. Holiday/Christmas.
Those are just a few of the categories listed on signs in the back meeting room at Newton Public Library.
People were sorting and arranging books Wednesday morning in that room, getting ready for the annual Friends of the Library book sale, which is today through Saturday.
There are many books for sale.
“There literally are thousands,” said Friends of the Library president Carol Heinel, while juggling table signs and talking to people who passed by needing direction on setting up for the sale.
Prices vary for books, CDs and DVDs from a donation to $3. For example, paperback books are 50 cents, while music CDs, DVD movies and books on DVD are $3 each.
The sale starts for Friends of the Library members only from 6 to 8 p.m. today. People who wish to attend that part of the sale can join Friends that evening for $10 per year or $50 for a lifetime membership. The sale opens to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds from the sale benefit the library.
In 2011, the sale garnered more than $2,000.
