All in the game

Aadhya Kesav befriended the camera when she was in class eight. That was over a decade ago. Since then it has been a smooth sailing affair for Aadhya who has hosted shows on many Malayalam channels. She is a psychologist and an entrepreneur as well. Aadhya currently hosts the live phone-in game show ‘Swarnamazha’ on Amrita TV. Over to Aadhya:

A veteran on the small screen

It is all thanks to my talkative nature. Actually it was my father, P.S. Kesavan Nampoothiri, who wanted me to do anchoring. Anchor Rahul Easwar is my cousin and so we were not new to the small screen. My first show as an anchor was ‘Super Hit Songs’ on DD Malayalam. I didn’t know anything about anchoring and perhaps that’s why I wasn’t tense at all! ‘Heartbeats’ on Asianet Plus was my next work. I did shows on Kiran TV such as ‘Hello Hello’, ‘Good Morning Keralam’, ‘Film News’, and ‘Ningalkkariyamo’. I have also interviewed celebrities for Surya TV and have hosted shows such as ‘Crime File’ on Kairali TV, ‘Bikes Cars’ on Amrita and ‘Ladies Hour’ on Kaumudy channel. Currently, besides ‘Swarnamazha’, I am hosting ‘Tech Mantra’ on Amrita and ‘Rhythm Box’ on Today TV. In addition, I anchor stage shows and conferences for various government and private institutions.

‘Swarnamazha’

This is my first live phone-in game show. Each episode has three rounds. The challenge lies in keeping the callers/viewers hooked to it. I can’t give out the answers, but I can help them indirectly, by means of a clue or some vague suggestions. It is fun because in some cases the caller gets very close to the answer and even if I want to help him or her I can’t do that. Actually I am more anxious than the caller.

Anchoring is…

A passion and not just a profession for me. That is why I have been able to do shows that deal with different subjects. This is one field where creativity is very important. When I do interviews, I do a lot of homework and try to make the chat as lively and different as possible. That is why I enjoy live shows.

Also, thanks to the job I have been able to catch up with celebrities in Malayalam and Tamil. One memorable assignment was meeting the Varsham team. I was very apprehensive about interacting with Mammootty, but it went off very well. Meeting actor Karthi and the Baahubali team was very exciting.

Taking up psychology

I wanted to become a doctor, but gave it up once I thought about the study load. Psychology was the next choice because I have always found the subject interesting. I love to observe people.

I have done my post graduation in psychology from Chennai. I now teach psychology to physiotherapy students of Bethany Navajeevan College of Physiotherapy in the capital city and organisational behaviour in the corporate management wing of University of Kerala. I also handle personality development training and motivation classes in various institutions.

Balancing act

I love to multi-task. I plan to do Ph.D in psychology and concentrate on positive psychology through which I can help people bring out their talent. In addition, I also manage the Thiruvananthapuram unit of my father’s company that is into total water solutions.

‘Swarnamazha’ is aired Monday to Thursday on Amrita TV at 8.30 p.m.
