Accreditation through partnership success at the University of Derby

The Society's new accreditation through partnership process received high praise from the University of Derby this week after confirming ongoing accreditation for their online MSc Health Psychology course.

The accreditation, which recognised the quality of the course, will directly benefit Health Psychology students studying at the University giving them the opportunity to go on to further training to become a Health Psychologist and gain Chartered Membership of the Society, which is widely recognised throughout the industry and by potential employers.

Derby’s course provides students with a high quality learning experience that is underpinned by good investment in web-based technologies, as well as excellent support from staff, giving students a clear sense of belonging despite being based all over the world. The course was commended for its cultural sensitivity, enabling students to think through the ways in which health psychology can be applied in their own diverse contexts, and more broadly for the ways in which skill development and employability are nurtured.

Health Psychology Programme Director at the University, Rebecca Knibb, said: “We are very pleased to have received the Society’s accreditation for this course.  The whole process has been collaborative with the Society providing guidance along the way and offering good advice where needed. I have been involved with the Society’s accreditation process since 2002 and found their new focus on partnership working refreshing and very supportive. In particular the reduction in the amount of paperwork needing to be sent in advance is very welcome.

Lucy Kerry Education Professional Development Manager said: “Accreditation through partnership is our approach to working collaboratively with programme providers to ensure quality and to promote ongoing enhancement. The team at Derby are right to feel proud of their course, which is regarded as a flagship by the University’s senior management team, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
