Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) September 16, 2012

Accentuate Consulting, LLC, a boutique firm that specializes in helping organizations increase their employees’ performance and improve organizational well-being, will be featured at SparkCon on September 16th, 2012 in Raleigh, NC. The panel will be discussing positive psychology and well-being and will also feature fellow Master of Applied Positive Psychology graduates, Sandy Lewis and Sean Doyle (http://www.rainstickconsulting.com). Shannon Polly, President of Accentuate Consulting, will discuss well-being at work and specifically positive communication and the research of Barbara Fredrickson on positivity ratios and Carol Dweck on mindset.

SPARKcon is a program of Visual Art Exchange, a Raleigh non-profit whose mission is to support emerging artists and connect the community to the arts. SPARKcon’s “creative potluck” of SPARKs or creative themes such as art, music, film, fashion, geek, circus, etc. is put together by passionate individuals who volunteer their expertise and are deeply embedded in a specific local scene. Using a combination of networking and open calls for participants, organizers create diverse and representative events to show off local talent and connect disparate creative scenes. SPARKcon grows every time a new person gets involved with a SPARK category, creating their own event, or joining in to help an existing one. It’s an open-source, “for the people, by the people” approach with an intentionally dynamic focus.

“We’re excited about the current developments in positive psychology and the opportunity to help companies improve performance and their bottom line,” says Shannon Polly, MAPP, President. “Science has shown that there is an actual mathematical ratio for individual human flourishing, which is 3:1. Experiencing three positive emotions to one negative emotion is the key to individual flourishing. For team flourishing, the ratio jumps to 6:1. Those are coded on a number of factors: inquiry vs. advocacy, self vs. other, and positive vs. negative. In addition, there are specific ways to give feedback that cultivate what Carol Dweck calls a ‘growth mindset’ which can improve the performance of your people.”
