A Quick Note on Transracial vs. Transgender | Ryley Rubin Pogensky

The only thing transracial and transgender have in common is their prefix.

As the dictionary explains:

"The prefix trans- and its variant tra-, which mean "across," appear in many English vocabulary words, for example: transmit, transform and trajectory. Consider the word translation, which is the carrying "across" from one language into another."

Kind of like psychiatry and psychology: a psychiatrist went to med school, a psychologist studied psychology. One can write you a script. One can't. But alas there at the beginning is the "psych."

Transracial DOES NOT mean transitioning from one race to another (because that's impossible) it is a term used for children who have been ADOPTED into homes of parents who are of a different race.

I am a POC who was adopted by white parents thus making me transracial. There is no ‪#‎transracial‬ lives matter movement. No transracial rallies for equality. Your race is who you are born as. It is the experiences you have lived. It is one of the only things, that no amount of plastic surgery or lies can cover up. Race is not learned, it is not flexible and it is not up for grabs. You can't trade your race for another. Moreover anyone stating that they feel more of one race than another (mixed raced people aside) is doing nothing more than appropriating.

While there may be many debates about gender and sexuality; whether the two are linked, whether either can be learned or influenced by society, these same points do not in any way shape or form apply to race. So kindly shut your mouth and stop your hands from typing nonsense all over your keyboard. Transgender and Transracial are not related in any way. Say it out loud, tell your friends, end these "discussions" as they are damaging to both communities.
