2015 UTC Spring Commencement Ceremonies

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga held its 254th Commencement at McKenzie Arena today.  All totaled, 30 Mocs student-athletes, managers and student support staff capped off their academic careers with the graduation ceremonies.

As usual, UTC student-athletes were among the academic leaders of the University.  Seven were Latin Honors Candidates, while Cross Country/Track Field standout Patrick O'Brien was the only individual in the entire institution to earn departmental honors in two areas.  He achieved highest honors in both Chemistry and Physics.

The departmental Honors Program allows exceptional students to receive special recognition for their academic achievements.  Departmental honors are bestowed upon students who have maintained high academic standards in their course work, completed an acceptable two-semester, four-hour honors project, and passed an oral examination.

Both women’s tennis grads were Latin Honors Candidates.  Kaylene Chadwell earned her degree in Communication, while Claire Mulyadi graduated with a degree in Business.

Martynas Bareika (Computer Science) and Lance Stokes (Communication) represented UTC’s men’s basketball program.  Kayla Freeman is an honors candidate in Psychology and was joined today by her women’s basketball teammate Ka'Vonne Towns (Health Human Performance).

The football team had five graduates, including Marquis Green (Psychology), Brent Hayes (Health Human Performance), Daniel Ring (Integrated Studies), Devin Scates (Health Human Performance) and Dustin Tate (Psychology).  Hayes exhausted his eligibility in 2008, but kept working towards his degree and will finish over the summer.

Liam Johnston (Psychology), Agathe Sauzon (Integrated Studies) and Crystal Mackezyk (Integrated Studies) represented the golf and soccer teams, while volleyball had a pair of grads in Melissa Green (Integrated Studies) and Brianna Guzinski (Psychology).

Wrestling had four walk today, including Levi Clemons (Criminal Justice), Shawn Greevy (Environmental Science), John Lampe (Education) and Jared Presley (Education).  Lampe is a Latin Honors Candidate and will compete as a graduate student next season.

The softball team has a busy day.  Taylor Deason (Health Human Performance), Courtney Ervin (Health Human Performance), Jenny Garcia (Health Human Performance), Nicole Osterman (Criminal Justice), Sarah Beth Roberts (Education) and Taylor Pannell (Business) all graduated today.  Tonight at 7:00 p.m. they take the field against Samford with the Southern Conference title on the line.  A win over the Bulldogs at Frost Stadium locks up at least a tie for the regular season league championship.
