Megan Baxter of Atlanta, Ga., and John Carlton-Foss of Weston delivered a transpersonal psychology workshop titled “The Big Bang and Reincarnation” on July 30 at the Elders’ Gathering in Lincoln, Vt.
The Elders’ Gathering is an annual four-day meeting and conference for Native American and Tibetan Buddhist practitioners at the Peace Village.
Baxter and Carlton-Foss used experiential physics sculpture and eco-spirit theater to enable participants to explore scientific and indigenous views of the Big Bang as well as the subject of reincarnation, both experiencing and discussing it. Then the same experiential approach was used to explore correlations between reincarnation and the Big Bang.
Carlton-Foss is an applied physicist and applied psychologist. As a serial entrepreneur he has started and operated several companies in the domain of psychology and technology. He was in a PhD program in physics at MIT, when a conversion experience led him into spiritual work and psychology, in which he earned his PhD at Saybrook University.
In addition to Christianity with an emphasis on contemplative prayer and service, he has practiced and/or taught various forms of yoga, therapy and meditation, and has studied with the Sunray Meditation Society since 2010.
