TORONTO, Feb. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - TVO's flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, was honoured by the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) for excellence in reporting on psychology, mental health and
addiction issues during TVO's 2012 Mental Health Matters campaign.
Presented at the Awards Luncheon of the OPA Annual Convention today, the
association's media award recognized The Agenda's coverage of mental health issues leading up to and during TVO's 2012 Mental Health Matters week. The reporting by The Agenda was credited for being informative, accurate and important to the
broader societal conversation.
"The Agenda with Steve Paikin has focused on mental health in a way that helps to reduce stigma and
discrimination, and to further tolerance and understanding," says Dr.
Connie Kushnir, President of the Ontario Psychological Association.
"This is vital considering mental well-being and mental illness touches
us all, either directly or through our family and friends."
The Agenda anchored TVO's 2012 Mental Health Matters week with five nights of
programs welcoming some of the brightest minds in the international
mental health community to discuss and debate mental health issues. The Agenda also ran a series of programs on mental health in the months leading up
to Mental Health Matters week. TVO's Mental Health Matters was a
multiplatform campaign which also featured lectures, documentaries and
dramas, as well as extensive online resources and special
in-the-community broadcast events to inform and engage Ontarians on
issues of mental health and addiction.
"Everyone at TVO is delighted to congratulate The Agenda team on receiving the Ontario Psychological Association's media award,"
says Lisa de Wilde, TVO's Chief Executive Officer. "The Agenda's analysis of mental health and addiction issues demonstrates the
innovative approach, unparalleled depth, and commitment to citizen
engagement TVO brings to important matters affecting Ontarians."
TVO and The Agenda will offer the same depth of analysis, breadth of perspective and
opportunities for citizen engagement and informed discourse with TVO's
2013 Mental Health Matters week, May 6-12.
