And the most popular dog names in the world are Max and Molly — at least in the English-speaking world.
Author Stanley Coren created a ranking for the 50 most popular dog names, published by Psychology Today, by combing through nearly two dozen lists printed in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia over the last two years.
Max, Jake, and Buddy are the most popular canine names for males, while Molly, Bella, and Daisy ranked at the top for females.
Coren pointed out the noticeable absence of traditional dog names like Bowser, Rover, and Fido — though the less conventional name of President Obama's dog, "Bo," made a surprisingly strong run, coming in at #38.
