SGA party affiliations announced

Party affiliations have been announced for Student Government Association presidential candidates.

John Bowden’s party is called UGA Blueprint, said Wes Robinson, SGA attorney general and leader of the elections committee. Bowden, a senior majoring in real estate and management, is a Terry senator this year running for president.

Tripp Calloway, a Franklin senator and a sophomore political science and geography major, will run as UGA Blueprint’s vice presidential candidate. Blake Bowden, a junior majoring in biology and psychology, will run as candidate for treasurer. John Bowden and Blake Bowden are not related.

Will Burgess’ party is called IgniteUGA, Robinson said. Burgess, a junior majoring in political science, is a SPIA senator and president pro tempore of the SGA Senate this year also running for president. Burgess’ campaign was found in violation of campaign rules late last week. Though he received a sanction for early campaigning, there were no tangible consequences to his campaign.

Marshall Mosher, a junior majoring in biology, psychology and economics, will run as IgniteUGA’s vice presidential candidate. Anush Vinod, a junior majoring in finance, will run for treasurer. This year, Mosher is a Franklin senator and Vinod is SGA’s director of legislative affairs.

Charles Hicks’ party is called Redefine, Robinson said. Hicks, a junior majoring in journalism and anthropology, was opinions editor at The Red Black in summer and fall 2011 and is running for president.

Alex Hebdon, who is studying international affairs and for her master’s of public administration degree, will run as the party’s vice president. Ellis Edwards, a sophomore majoring in marketing and family financial planning, will run as treasurer.

Robinson said no Senate candidates have announced party affiliations. Candidates for senator can choose to run in parties or run independently.
