As San Diego State University’s class of 2013 began commencement ceremonies today, university officials released a list of their 10 most popular degrees, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the top.
SDSU offers 89 areas in which a bachelor’s degrees can be earned, 78 areas for master’s degrees and 21 areas for doctorates, but about 500 of this year’s graduates chose to study human behavior and mental processes, majoring in psychology, according to the university.
SDSU’s psychology department is ranked in the top 10 in the country and second in the state for National Institutes of Health awards, university officials said.
A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice was the second most popular among this year’s graduates.
According to the university, 365 students chose to pursue criminal justice degrees.
Degrees in business administration- management and business administration- accounting took the third and fourth highest spots, with 210 and 178 graduates in the fields respectively, according to SDSU.
Fifth on the list was an economics degree, followed bachelor’s degrees by political science, communications, business administration-finance and liberal studies, according to the university.
A bachelor’s degree in biology rounded out the list.
