The leading conference for multiple sclerosis health care professionals, the 2014 Cooperative Meeting of CMSC (Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers) ACTRIMS® (Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) is now offering continuing education credit for psychologists. Taking place May 28-31, 2014 in Dallas, TX this important meeting will have educational programing for psychologists to be updated on issues that are commonly addressed in their clinical practices with unique features to multiple sclerosis. Topics such as depression, pain, the role of CAM, and evidence-based interventions will be explored throughout the 4-day program.

"Up to 50% of MS patients experience depression due to the disease itself or the physical impact of its symptoms. This makes the role of the psychologists critical in providing comprehensive and optimal care to MS patients," said June Halper, MSN, APN-C, MSCN, FAAN, Chief Executive Officer, CMSC.

In addition to the APA accredited sessions, the Cooperative Meeting of CMSC ACTRIMS® will also have a dinner for MS Mental Health Professionals (MS/MHP) on Wednesday, May 28th that will provide an opportunity for network development of this growing group within CMSC.

Dr. Frederick W. Foley, Chair of the Psychosocial Research Interest Group, spearheaded the effort to obtain APA accreditation. The APA approved sessions are relevant to psychological practice, education and science; enable psychologists to keep pace with emerging issues and technologies; and allow psychologists to maintain, develop, and increase competencies in order to improve services to the public and enhance contributions to the profession.

The 2014 Cooperative Meeting of CMSC ACTRIMS®, which includes a robust agenda of lectures, workshops, symposia, roundtables, and networking opportunities, also provides CME for physicians as well as continuing education credits for nurses, pharmacists, and social workers. Independently supported satellite programs will also offer additional accredited learning opportunities in multiple sclerosis.
