GLOVERSVILLE - Clinical Psychologist David C. Thompson, Ph.D., recently opened a new office at 40 N. Main St. on the second floor of the Schine Building, also known as Memorial Hall.

His practice, called Psychological Solutions, helps clients develop solutions using psychological methods. Thompson first received his clinical psychology doctorate in 1963 from Pennsylvania State University and is licensed in New York and Pennsylvania, having had a private practice in Herkimer from 1989 to 2005.

He also has held numerous positions throughout the state including director of the Tompkins County Mental Health Clinic in Ithaca from 1979 to 1983 and then Director of Community Services and the Mental Health Clinic for Fulton County Mental Health Services from 1983 to 1987.

Through his various work experiences, Thompson, who retired but has since decided to restart his practice locally, has gained experience working with a variety of problems especially veterans who have post traumatic stress disorder or suicidal thoughts as well as children who have ADD or ADHD or couples who are looking for marital counseling.

"Trust is meant for people who have fallen, people who need a lift. And to give or extend trust to such a person is a gift of love," Thompson wrote in a piece about trust in the context of couples counseling in Everyday Psychology, a newsletter from 1999 that he was involved in.

Thompson offers psychotherapy, both marital and individual counseling, ADD and ADHD counseling and career counseling.

Thompson also offers psychological treatment to help people set and achieve their goals.

He has experience with seniors, developmentally disabled clients and veterans.

Thompson welcomes DSS clients.

He accepts most insurance providers as well as Medicaid and Medicare.
