Psychologist advises to keep holiday expectations realistic
Is it just 'holiday blues' or full-blown depression?
Christiana Care Director of Psychology Dr. Alan Schwartz says this time of year can have serious effects on anyone in an emotionally-vulnerable state.
Schwartz says a major factor can be unrealistic expectations.
"There's expectations for being with family, and financial pressures, and even expectations from kids about the kinds of presents or gifts they are going to get, and so those things really do come into focus and cause a tremendous amount of stress," he said.
Schwartz says while it's normal for anyone to feel stressed or "down" during this time of year, any talk of suicide should be taken very seriously.
