PALO ALTO, Calif.--(
institution, announced today that psychology professor Stanley Sue, PhD
has been elected as President-elect of the American Psychological
Association’s (APA) Division 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of
Ethnic Minority Issues). Sue, who is also PAU’s Director of the Center
for Excellence in Diversity, succeeds William Cross, PhD.
“His
work in the field of ethnic minority research has been widely published
and this new position will give him a solid platform to share his
knowledge with the greater community of psychologists so that a larger
audience can benefit from his work.”
“I am deeply honored to have been voted for this position to lead,” says
Sue. “My goal as president of Division 45 will be to closely examine
what ways the years of ethnic minority research, practice, and advocacy
have been effective or ineffective, and try to forecast what demographic
changes, political sentiments, and new research and practices can be
anticipated 10-20 years from now.”
As the Division 45 President, Sue hopes to continue to act as a mentor
to senior and junior psychologists as well as students. In this
capacity, he will actively encourage the discussion of issues
surrounding ethnic minority research in APA’s convention programs and
publications, and plans to form a special Division task force for this
purpose.
“I am incredibly proud of Stan’s accomplishments as a researcher,
professor and colleague, and know he will demonstrate outstanding
leadership in this role,” says PAU President Allen Calvin, PhD. “His
work in the field of ethnic minority research has been widely published
and this new position will give him a solid platform to share his
knowledge with the greater community of psychologists so that a larger
audience can benefit from his work.”
