Ladies’ College Department of Vocational Studies (LCDVS) is one of the pioneer Vocational Institutes in the country. The Institute caters for all age groups and offers a wide variety of courses. The Diploma in Pre School Sub primary Education is the most recognized course offered at the Institute. It is one of the original courses and has been revised to suit the present times.

Those who qualify are eagerly sought by Private and International Schools.
Recognizing the need that schools in the 21st Century are responsible to modify teaching methods and environments to include children with Special Educational Needs, LCDVS has developed three courses.

Diploma in Special Needs Education – 14 months

The Diploma in Specific Learning Disabilities – 8 months Online Diploma in Specific Learning Disabilities – One year  A teacher training course with international affiliation is the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers Trainers. It is a vehicle for continued professional development and is relevant for teaching and training in a variety of contexts. Only practicing teachers and trainers can enroll for this course.

For teachers and those aspiring to be English teachers, the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test is an ideal course The most recently introduced course is the Diploma in Child Adolescent Psychology. This course is conducted in collaboration with the Colombo Institute of Research Psychology (CIRP). The aim of this course is to give participants a sound knowledge in the area of child psychology.

Another area that LCDVS is well recognized for is Secretarial training. Depending on the experience, students can enroll for a course. For beginners the Certificate in Secretarial Studies is recommended. Those with experience can select from the Diploma for Professional Secretaries or the Internationally recognized London Chamber of Commerce Industry(LCCI) Executive Secretary’s Diploma.
LCDVS is also a tuition provider for the Chartered Corporate Secretaries Local Examinations.

Those students who wish to improve their English Language skills can enroll for a course either during the week end or week days. Conversational and General English Courses at three levels are conducted on weekdays. For persons who are working, a Certificate Course in Practical English is conducted on a Saturday afternoon. A Certificate Course in Conversational Tamil is a recent addition and is ideal for those who wish to learn the language.

LCDVS also caters for those wishing to acquire basic computer skills. A successful Seminar series on Labour Laws and Industrial Relations was conducted in the month of October in collaboration with the Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka (YESL). Many new seminars are planned for 2012.
