She’s president of Huskies With a Heart, a school-based community service group affiliated with the Junior Optimist club.

“We work on different projects in the school and outside in the community to make the world a better place,” she said.

Carmen is a member of the Alpha Theta and National Honor societies, is a four-year academic letter winner and even found time to run on Lakeview’s cross-country team.

She’s also an avid dancer and works as an assistant teacher at the Casali School of Dance.

“(Carmen) is a leader in our school who contributes both socially and academically,” said Bev Morin, a Lakeview counselor. “She has set herself up for many opportunities.”

The Macomb Daily Students of the Week are selected in advance by the schools with the approval of the Macomb County Secondary Principals Association. Each student qualifies to compete for a scholarship from one of the following universities: Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley State, Michigan State, Michigan Technological, Oakland and Western Michigan.
