Cozy mysteries
RiverRun Bookstore in Portsmouth will welcome cozy mystery authors Jessie Crockett, Edith Maxwell and Liz Mugavero to read from and discuss their new books at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. A nearly lifelong resident of the Granite State, Crockett's debut mystery, "Live Free or Die," was the 2011 winner of the Daphne DuMaurier Award for Mainstream Mystery. Maxwell's "Local Foods Mystery" series debuted in 2013 with "A Tine to Live, a Tine to Die." The series features novice organic farmer Cam Flaherty, the quirky Westbury Locavore Club, and locally sourced murder. Mugavero most recently published the kitchen-centric mystery "Kneading to Die." Art on exhibit
The new exhibit "Maine Landscapes by Lorwen Nagle" is now on view in the Anne Vance Morgan Gallery at the Kittery Community Center in Kittery, Maine. Nagle's vivid Landscapes of Southern Maine will be on view until Feb. 9. As a native Texan, Nagle views the Maine coastline very differently than her fellow New England painters. She brings strong compositional skills, a boldness of content, and a keen range of color intensity. She worked as a psychologist for many years and is very receptive to the psychosocial aspects of the environment. "En plein air" oil painting is her way of expressing the poetry of the land, and she paints on site as opposed to painting from photographs. The gallery, located at 102 Rogers Road, is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Visit www.lorwenpaintings.com.
Going A cappella
The Grace Notes will perform an a cappella gospel concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Eliot United Methodist Church, 238 Harold Dow Highway, in Eliot, Maine. The Grace Notes uplift and inspire audiences with harmony, chart-topping quality vocals and a positive message. Instead of an admission fee, concert-goers are encouraged to bring donations to support the church's local outreach mission in York County.
