Elin Nordegren has taken a public swing at her former husband Tiger Woods during the commencement speech at her college graduation.
The 34-year-old mother of two graduated from Rollins College in Florida, with a degree in Psychology and a 3.96 GPA, and earned the Class of 2014's top honour, the Hamilton Holt Outstanding Senior Award.
Nordegren addressed her fellow graduates at the college's commencement ceremony and joked about her lengthy journey as a college co-ed while effortlessly delivering one-liners about her divorce from Woods.
"I've been called a woman of few words and criticised by the media for not talking very much," Nordegren said.
"A commencement speech is meant to inspire. And when I started to think what I should say to you all today, I got a little scared. What words could I use to inspire us all after a long journey in college?"
"In the fall of 2005, I was 25 years old. I had just recently moved to America. I was married without children. Today, nine years later, I am a proud American and I have two beautiful children. But I am no longer married."
The latter comment elicited a large cheer from the crowd.
Nordegren – who shares daughter Sam, 6, and son Charlie, 5 with Woods – continued to grab laughs as she jested about how she wished she took better notes during her Communication and Media courses after she was "unexpectedly thrust into the media limelight" in 2010 amid her messy divorce.
She called the time "the wild storm of my personal life."
Despite the media frenzy around her, Nordegren continued to take night classes and chip away at her degree.
"Education has been the only consistent part of my life the last nine years. And it has offered me comfort. Education is one thing that no one can take away from you," she concluded.
The former model may have stayed silent in the past, but if we can learn anything from her graduation speech about life, it is that it's all about who gets the last laugh.
