It's a new year and CB Cares has a new mission.
So the organization, now known as the CB Cares Educational Foundation, is planning a year full of speakers and activities to help the Central Bucks community grow in a healthy way.
On Tuesday, the foundation will host nationally recognized psychologist Ken Winters. He will give a free lecture called "This is Your Brain on Adolescence."
"He can inform parents generally about what he knows from his research, then give suggestions and insights about how to use the science in a practical way," said Barbara Gross, assistant program director for the foundation.
And he can help teens understand what is happening in their own minds.
Winters is a psychology professor at the University of Minnesota. He also is a consultant at the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research and a senior scientist with the Treatment Research Institute in Philadelphia. He also has consulted with The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, which now is known as The Partnership at Drugfree.org.
CB Cares Executive Director Kimberly Cambra said many of the national agencies that share her foundation's focus have hosted Winters or talked about his work.
As Cambra and Gross were trying to establish this year's calendar of events and lineup of speakers, Cambra said, "Ken Winters would just keep coming up to the top of our list."
Cambra said she hopes to host a "dynamic," "expert" speaker like Winters each season that school is in session; some will be nationally known and others will be from Southeastern Pennsylvania.
"I want to encourage people to look at us as a resource in the community for (information about) parenting," Cambra said. "We're here to help each parent be the best parent they can be."
