Carlisle amateur Kieran Waters will be joining the Lee Westwood Golf School for a two-year course after talent spotters noted his potential.
The 18-year-old will study psychology, learn about fitness and nutrition and take part in a competition programme in order to boost his skills, according to the News and Star.
Former European Tour professional Michael Welsh is a coach at the institution and Waters could be in line for a BTEC qualification at the end of his time there.
The teenager said the school has improved his mental strength and allowed him to mature as a player.
"Hopefully, I can now step up to the county team and then do well in national events and see if I can get myself noticed," he explained.
Waters described his admiration for Westwood, who recently regained the world number two spot with a win at the Thailand Golf Championship, adding that he is a "very steady player".
