As per a study, which has been published in the Journal Current Biology, it has been revealed that taking rest in weekends and having ample of sleep result in gaining weight. European researchers said that there is a reason for weight gain and other health problems and the reason is the human body clock gets confused and increases fat storage capacity.
Till Roenneberg, who is a Professor at the University of Munich's Institute of Medical Psychology, in Germany, was of the view that they have named the phenomenon as social jet lag. He explained that while working the cardiac rhythm is high, everything changes during weekends as a person is quite relaxed.
The difference between schedules of weekend and weekdays is the cause of weight gain and other health problems. "This potentially has ramifications for disrupting circadian rhythms and translating into the same sorts of things associated with shift work, such as an increased risk for cancer and diabetes", said Roenneberg.
Some of the reasons for weight gain during weekends are irregular meal times as body is not habitual to eat food at that particular time and it increases the storage capacity of fat within the body. Henceforth, it is important to pay attention to body clock.
