The following was submitted by Providence Catholic High School:
Katherine Formentini, of New Lenox, was named Providence Catholic High School's valedictorian for the class of 2012.
The daughter of Mark and Gail Formentini, she graduated from St. Jude Catholic School in New Lenox and is also a member of that parish.
She will attend Loyola University of Chicago, where she received the Damen Scholarship and the Chicago Heritage Award. She plans to major in Psychology.
Formentini has been a member of the high honor roll in ever semester and is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, an AP Scholar and an Illinois State Scholar.
She has also been a member of the Augustinian Youth Ministry, Math Team and band throughout her entire high school career, and participated in Respect for Life Club, Art Club and Drama Club, is a Eucharistic Minister and was named Student of the Month by the Science Department.
Outside of school, Formentini volunteers at St. Jude Parish as a Junior High Youth Ministry Coach, where she is also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of Kwest Youth Group.
"The academics at Providence are just the beginning of preparation for college and life," she said. "From the freshmen retreat to Masses to the Kairos retreat, Providence has allowed me to grow with spirituality at the center of my academic life."
In 2011, Sarah Formentini was named Providence Catholic's valedictorian.
